Jeremy: Resilience and Change

When your world is being ripped apart,
what changes, and what stays the same?

Under an unexpected torrent of personal and public loss,
I’ve sought resilience by taking refuge
in the strong arms of my community.

Rage, evasiveness and heavy-blanket despair
sometimes rear up out of nowhere
to fight for scraps of my ragged psyche.

It turns out to my chagrin I may have wanted
to be special as badly as I wanted to be good.

More elegant has been abrupt reacquaintance
with the intimacy of the Sublime,
that walk down to the crossroads
of stark beauty and acute pain.

This I know most:
All love is unconditional.
All love is unrequited.
